Extreme Mustang Makeover: Mission 007

The American Mustang...the horse that roams the Western desert...here is your chance to own a part of the American heritage! The Mustang Heritage Foundation, along with the BLM, have developed programs which make the Mustang more adoptable for the public. In September 2008, 200 Mustang yearlings were available for adoption following an In-Hand competition during the Extreme Mustang Makeover at Fort Worth! The yearlings in this program were picked up in late May 2008 by trainers all over the nation, and the trainers had the next 100 days to gentle and train the once-wild colts for perform specific manuvuers required in the show competition. Following the Finals competition, the yearlings went through a silent auction to get adopted.

Zachary, Jarrett, and Luke Haydon, ages 12, 10, and 8, all competed in the youth division with the four colts pictured below, where $10,000 was available in scholarship awards. Pictured below, you can follow the transformation of their Mustangs as they prepared for Sept adoption, where they all found new homes.

The Mustang horse is bred and born wild, and acts on instinct alone to protect and preserve its breed. To domesticate this animal takes patience and talent, and programs like the Mustang Makeover, have been developed to make these animals more adoptable to the public.
